Day Trips in India
Edit ThisTaj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri
No visit to India can be complete without a stop at this great marble monument, which is the epitome of an Emperor’s love for his wife. The beauty of the intricate designs on the marble and the façade of this structure will take your breath away. On the way back, stop at Fatehpur Sikri fort. This red sandstone fort, built by the Mughal emperor Akbar, is a beautiful piece of architecture. It is well preserved and stands as testimony to the ingenuity of the craftsmen of that era.
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
You can visit the famous sanctuary in the morning and drive back to Delhi in the night. The trip is worth the effort, as the sanctuary attracts many species of birds, especially in the winter months. There are also many different plants that can be found in this sanctuary.
Sultanpur Lake
This lake is about a one and a half hour drive from Delhi. A peaceful spot, it is crowed only on Sundays and holidays. It is a bird sanctuary, and many migratory birds also visit this place in the winter. There are many good restaurants in the area as well.
Kurukshetra
Here you can enjoy a boat ride in the lake and joyrides on an array of amusement parks. You can also visit some of the holiest places in India.
Jaipur
You must visit this royal city and see the magnificent Amber Fort. You can take an elephant ride to the top. Next, visit the old observatory or Jantar Mantar. The giant sundial here is worth a stop. After lunch, check out the Hawa Mahal in the heart of the city. Also in the vicnity is the City Palace, which gives you a glimpse of how the royals lived in Rajasthan – the land of the kings. In the evening, stroll around the local shops before returning to Delhi the same night. Although some of these trips will stretch you to 16 hour days, the places listed here are all worth a visit from Delhi.
A visit to Flower Market in New Delhi at dawn
Edit ThisIf you are up even before dawn in Delhi, you may want to go for a run along the city’s many green belts. Or you could pay a visit to India’s biggest wholesale flower market in Connaught Place, the main commercial and shopping district in the centre of the capital of the country. Look at the flowers, absorb their beauty and take some home. It may just be the best good morning you may wished yourself in a long long time.
Why early morning? Because it is a temporary market that comes alive at 4 am and disappears by 9 am. Traders display their offerings during this more..| World66 rating: | |

A visit to Spice Market of Old Delhi
Edit ThisIn the Indian metropolis of Delhi, where fast-paced, cell-phone toting characters out of Monsoon Wedding live side by side with barefoot rickshaw wallahs cycling past roaming cows in the road, you will visit the largest spice market in all of Asia, the bustling Khari Baoli bazaar.
At once, all our senses were over-stimulated to an amplified level. Open air shops on both sides of the road displayed sackcloth bags filled with pungent spices, bushels of fragrant flowers, nuts and sticky dried fruits, mountains of bright orange turmeric, mouth-watering sweets, more..| World66 rating: | [rate it] |

Watch a Bollywood movie at Rajmandir, Jaipur
Edit This The Raj Mandir Cinema is the best known cinema building in India and is also on the tourist trail for visitors to Jaipur (similar to the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood , California ). It certainly lives up to its reputation as one of the most remarkable cinemas in India . The exterior of the building consists of various asymetrical shapes, zig-zags, curves and even stars set into the facade, all lit at night by concealed lighting. The theatre's name is located on top of the building in large red neon letters and it also boasts the legend 'The more..| World66 rating: | [rate it] |

A visit to Academy of Indian Classical Music, Varanasi
Edit ThisThe origin of Hindustani classical music can be traced back to Vedic times, nearly five thousand years ago. Some say its origin is far older, lost in the mists of distant times and places beyond the lives and memories of humankind. Sanskrit writings ascribe its genealogy to a period in remote antiquity. There, it is written, this music was originally “the language of the gods.”
From this obscure point of indeterminate origin, it evolved over thousands of years in temples and spiritual traditions throughout the Indian subcontinent. And many centuries ago, it moved from more..
