Arunachal Pradesh is the land often referred to as the land of the dawn-lit mountains. It is a thinly populated hilly area in the most eastern part of India. It borders in the west on Bhutan , on China in the north and on Burma in the east. The population is predominantly tribal. The different tribes form 79% of the population. The hospitable people of the various tribes, often still dressed according to their own traditional and colourful codes, speak there own traditional tongue.

In 1992, a major change considering tourist policy took place. The Union Home Ministry agreed to allow foreign tourists to visit Arunachal Pradesh and they are allowed to trek, raft and fish on certain selected natural spots. Make sure you get a Restricted Area Permit in order to avoid disappointments.

The Itanagar (the capital of the state)- Ziro - Daporiji - Pasighatand circuit and the Margherita - Mian - Nampdapa circuit are the two circuits that have been cleared. India's largest Buddhist Monastery, the famous Tawang Monastery, is also to be found in Arunachal, in Tawang.
