Getting There in Andaman and nicobar islands
Edit ThisIf you want to enjoy one of the best beaches in India then you must visit Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Getting There is possible only by air and sea. However, a special permit, Restricted Area Permit, is required to visit the islands if you are a non-Indian.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands by Air
Andaman has a domestic airport, Vir Sarvarkar Airport, in Port Blair
which carters to the daily air service of domestic air carriers like
Jet Airways, Kingfisher Red (Air Deccan) and Indian Airlines from
Chennai and Kolkata on the mainland. However, the fares are pretty
expensive as compared to the rates of the same carriers operating between cities on the
mainland. There are no night flights to reach Andaman as the airport is
handed over to the Indian Air Force after 3 p.m.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands by Sea
You can also get here by sea from Kolkata, Chennai and
Visakapattnam. However, it will take almost 4 days to reach Port Blair
in Andaman. Therefore, it is advisable to take the journey only if you
are comfortable with water transportation. Otherwise, you will end up with sea sickness. The cruise
ships are available 4 times a month from Kolkata and Chennai and once a month from Visakapatnam. The rate of a deluxe air-conditioned cabin is around
Rs.6000/- which is the same as the air fare. The first class air-conditioned cabins
cost around Rs.5000/-.
