Getting Around in Andaman and nicobar islands
Edit ThisOne of the finest beaches in India is in the Andaman and Nicobar
Islands. Transportation within the island and among the islands is
considerably good, which makes trip here very enjoyable.
Transportation Among the Islands
There are several small islands in the region and ferries are the
best mode of transportation here. These are run by the government under
Director of Shipping Services (DSS). For the locals there are the local
ferries while for the tourist there are the tourist ferries. The
difference is mostly in the size while the rates are almost the same, around Rs.150/- to Rs.200/- for one way from Port Blair to
Havelock Island. The tourist ferries are smaller in size as compared to
local ferries and they take shorter times to travel. Also it is advisable to
book your ferry tickets in advance due to heavy rush of tourist in the
peak season.
Transportation Within the Islands
You can hire an auto rickshaw or taxi to move around within the islands. Both are readily available and are comfortable for travel for short and long trips. However an auto rickshaw is far cheaper than hiring a taxi. If you want to have more fun, you can rent a motor bike or a scooter. Both Port Blair and Havelock Islands have the facility for rental bikes and scooters. In Port Blair it will cost around Rs.350/- for a day while in Havelock Islands it ranges between Rs.150/- to Rs.250/- with a security deposit of Rs.750/- to Rs.1000/-.
