Thimphu is not really know for its restaurants, much like the rest of Bhutan but there are a few interesting places all within walking distance of the center of town.

Benez

Edit This

Benez is a tiny little place which has a very interesting clientele. Some of Thimphu's more colorful locals mix with the many foreign NGO workers living in Thimphu. Friday night is always packed and the tiny bar is jammed. The BBQ ribs are the best in town, not that anyone else ever has them. They tend to be fairly spicy. They also make excellent mo mos but it takes a long time. Their Fench Fries are the best.

The Zone, Thimphu

Edit This

The Zone makes the best cheese burgers in town. Also well known for their excellent roast beef sandwiches, pizza and yak burgers, this is a place well loved by both adults and children. With deating both inside and outside, the Zone is located centrally and a place where you can see whats happening in and about town without quite being in the midst of it.

A no smoking restobar, the Zone prides itself on its cleanliness and quality, be it in  terms of service, food or facilities.

If you're new in town and are looking for a cool place to hang out, the Zone is the place. more..

The Art Cafe

Edit This

The Art Cafe is probably the cutest and cleanest restaurant in Thimphu. They serve mainly sandwiches and pastrys and have a small outside courtyard. There are daily specials which sometime change and sometimes do not. The chicken wraps are always on and a deal at less then a dollar.

The Bhutan Kitchen

Edit This

For the best authentic Bhutanese cuisine the Bhutan Kitchen is the place to go. It opened in the summer of 2004 and has become THE place for the local big shots to hang out. The Crown Prince often dines there with his entourage. The buckwheat pancakes are a specialty and are great to wrap around the meat from the pork stew or the local staple of chiles and cheese.

Seasons

Edit This

Seasons is the only place in Thimphu to get a pizza and while it may not be the best in the world, if you haven't had one for a while it is pretty tasty. The Devil's Pizza makes use of some very hot chile and is not for the timid. I do not recommend any pizza with yak. Be sure to check that Sandya is cooking, she is the owner. If her husband is on the job the food is no where near as good.
