Dhaka's most important attraction is Lalbagh Fort, an unfinished fort dating from 1678 located in the Old City. In the same area you can find some interesting mosques, including Hussain Dalan. The National Museum is north of the Old City in the old European zone known as Modern City. It has fascinating displays of Bangladesh's Hindu, Buddhist and Moghul past and an extensive collection of fine folk art and handicrafts. Finishing with chilliing reminders of the bloody war for independance in 1971.

Dhaka has seen a lot of developments in the last couple of years especially with the rise of shopping malls, world famous fast food joints to the establishement of two flyovers.

Bashundhara City Shopping Complex is situated in the city's Panthapath area, very near to the five star Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel. Bashundhara City is apparently the biggest shopping mall in South East Asia. It has different levels of shops, indoor amusement parks, endless fast food shops and a movie theatre 'Star Cineplex' where english and bengali movies are shown (occassionally few superhit hindi movies are released there as well)

Dhaka has branches of the world famous Pizza Hut and KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken). Both are located in the city's posh area, Gulshan-1.
