Museum of Jade Art
Edit This
The Ying Wei Yi Shu Museum of Jade Art is the first museum in the world whose core mission is research about, exhibition of, and education in the culture of jade art. Founder and director Soofeen Hu, a Myanmarese of Chinese descent, grew up, as a result of his family’s business and traditions, with very rigorous professional training in jade and precious stones. In 1995, on a visit to the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Hu was deeply struck by the piece “Jadeite Cabbage with Insects,” which can be considered to have achieved the highest standards in classic jadeite sculpture. This inspired Hu to begin his own journey into creative jade art, and his work quickly earned the enthusiastic approbation of Chin Hsiao-yi, former director of the National Palace Museum.
With the aim of preserving and passing along the culture of jadeite art, Director Hu conceived the idea of founding a museum. The name for the museum, Ying Wei Yi Shu, was chosen by Chin Hsiao-yi, who also did the calligraphy for it. The well-known architect 姚仁祿 was invited to do the spatial planning and design for the museum. In this exquisite, elegant museum space, we invite you to experience, at your leisure, an appreciation for the eternally living value of jadeite art.
