When to Go in Kenting

Edit This

If you're headed to Kenting, when to go is just as important as where to go once you arrive at this Taiwanese national park and resort. While year-round tropical temperatures generally make this destination a pleasant vacation spot in any season, there are still advantages and disadvantages to each season.

Spring

Springtime in Kenting is warm, but not overly hot. Average spring temperatures in Kenting are between 59 and 84 degrees F. You can expect the most average rainy days per month during spring; particularly the month of March, which has cooler weather than April and May. A highlight of the season is the Spring Scream, held the first weekend of April, during which both professional and amateur music groups and dancers perform for anywhere from 2 to 11 days. The area is especially crowded during this time, particularly with college-aged young adults, as Spring Scream is the biggest international music festival in the country.

Summer

Summer is really a scorcher. You can expect the tropical temperatures at Kenting to be somewhere between 75 and 93 degrees F on average. The water temperature is at is finest, making summer the ideal time for people who plan to go swimming, boating, scuba diving, paragliding or water skiing. However, be aware that summer is typhoon season in Kenting, so you may find beaches closed for days on end and have less to do when forced to keep your activities indoors. If the park and beaches are closed due to the typhoon winds, you might want to spend the time visiting the Kenting Aquarium (a.k.a. The National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium), which features a number of indoor exhibits.

Autumn

Autumn is easily the best time to visit Kenting because it's the least crowded. After the tourist peak of summer and spring, it can be relaxing to find so few people on the beach or at the hottest attractions, so you can take your time to unwind and enjoy the scenery. You don't have to worry about overly cool weather, either. The average fall temperatures range from 64 to 89 degrees F, so it's still a tropical getaway destination even when it's cooling down. Fall also has fewer rainy days on average than any other season. The water temperatures may be cooling off, but waves make conditions optimal for surfers.

Winter

There's no such thing as "cold" weather in Kenting; you can expect the average winter temperatures to be somewhere between 59 and 66 degrees F. While this makes Kenting less of a tropical destination, it may make the area more appealing to people who can't handle the excessive heat. Plus, the location is less crowded during the winter months than the spring and summer months, although because of annual festivals such as the Wind Bell Festival, which is celebrated throughout the Pingtung County region in January, you may still run into a crowd here and there.
