Senior Travel in Kenting

Edit This

Kenting senior travel is as varied as the seniors who vacation there. While the national park and resort is known for its tropical temperatures, there's more to do than just visiting the beaches. Seniors headed to Kenting should know about the following:

Summer is Hot, Crowded and Typhoon Season

The summer temperature in Kenting averages from 75 to 93 degrees F, which is pleasant for some senior "snowbirds," but may be overly warm for others. Summer is also when there are the most families, children and other vacationers, so it can be more difficult to find a spot on the beach or reserve a room. Last but not least, summer is typhoon season in Taiwan, which can shut down public beaches and other outdoor activities for days on end.

Consider Fall or Winter Travel

Seniors might enjoy traveling to Kenting during the autumn and winter, which are far less crowded than spring and summer, so it's easier to get a hotel room, dine at the most popular restaurants and sunbathe at the beach without fighting for space. Fall temperatures are still plenty warm- 64 to 89 degrees F on average -and winter has pleasantly moderate temperatures of 59 to 66 degrees F. Winter is also the season for a number of regional cultural festivals, such as the Wind Bell Festival in January. During this festival, you can trek across the beaches of Pingtung County to examine the wind chime crafts of local and global artisans and even make your own wind chime to take home.

Kenting Aquarium

The National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, colloquially known as the Kenting Aquarium, is one of the most popular stops for tourists, and seniors are no exception. The aquarium features three permanent and one rotating exhibit with local tropical fish and fish from around the world on display in recreations of sunken ships, ancient landscapes and local corals and reefs. Seniors can tackle as many or as few of the exhibits as they feel comfortable walking through, and get away from the tropical temperatures and bright sunlight outdoors. Seniors also save on admission. With ID showing you're 65 or older or if you appear disabled, you can get an all-day ticket for TW$225 (US$7), half the cost of the traditional adult ticket.

Kenting National Park Recreation Area

Depending on whether or not you consider yourself active, you can get an incredible deal on exploring limestone caves in the middle of a forest of giant trees. Admission to the Kenting National Park Recreation Center is only TW$10 (US$.40) for seniors and disabled persons, but if you experience mobility issues or difficulty breathing, you should skip the caves, as they're kept in their natural splendor and are not very disabled-friendly.
