Day Trips in Kenting
Edit ThisKenting is a place where you can celebrate nature and its gifts. Here are some Kenting Day Trips you’ll cherish.
Sheding Nature Park
This park which is really a coral reef out of water, offers a surreal landscape you will always remember – limestone caves, a coral reef valley, and vast expanses of grassland. The quaint bonsai-like trees in the park have been sculpted by the wind.
The place has an abundance of plants accompanied by their entourage of cicadas and butterflies. One portion of the park is dedicated to the conservation of the Formosan Sika Deer.
Guanshan
This coral plateau in the famous Kenting National Park rises about 498 feet above sea level. Its high altitude offers the best views of the sunset in Kenting. From here, you can see far and wide: the Dapingding Tableland in the north, the fishing village to the west, and the Hengchun Valley, Longluantan Lake and hills in the east. The entire coastline from Maobitou to Eluanbi stretches to the south.
Another place to visit on Guanshan is the exquisite Kaoshanyan temple. Inside, it is built around coral caves. Nearby, you’ll see the curious Flying Stone and Divine Turtle coral rocks. People pray to the Divine Turtle for a good marriage and career, and tie red ribbons to it.
South Bay (Nanwan)
If you’d like to do some surfing, scuba divining or snorkeling or just relax on soft sand and swim in deep blue waters, Nanwan in the Kenting National Park is the place for you. It is a small fishing village with a wide beach, 1,968 feet long. The village has plenty of restaurants, shops and bars. The scenery here is beautiful and the warm waters are packed with colorful marine life and coral reefs.
The Sichong River Hot Springs
If you have stiff muscles and knots of tension in your body, these hot springs are sure to bring you relief. The spring water high in sodium carbonate content and minerals also boosts blood circulation. The Japanese army discovered the springs and built a bath here in 1895.
Chuhuo in Hengchun
This site by the eastern gates of the ancient city of Hengchun is mystical. The ground here is eternally lit by tiny orange and blue flames ignited by the natural gas escaping through fissures. Not even the rain can put the flames out. Local residents attribute the flames to the presence of spirits.
