Sights in South Korea
Edit ThisSouth Korea sights are plentiful, beautiful and varied. If you're planning a tour of this incredible country, you'll want to have an idea of what there is to see. Follow this brief itinerary to capture the best of Korea - or at least some of it!
Seoul - Starting in this bustling city, you can make your way around to the five palaces of the emperors. Ride to the top of Seoul Tower to get a view of the city, and be sure to make time to head into Insadong for some souvenirs, Itaewon and Hongdae for the nightlife and Jongno for the museums.
DMZ - You can sign yourself up for a bus tour to the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea. Visit the Freedom Bridge and descend into the tunnels to hear the dispute over who actually dug them and for what purpose. Take a turn of the museum and head to the top of the Unification Observatory for a view of the propaganda village of North Korea.
Buyeo - Catch the train south to Buyeo for a glimpse of the Baekje Kingdom. Here you can visit the old fortress and burial mounds, as well as the Buyeo National Museum. There's a lovely pond garden with a romantic story attached, and don't miss the Rock of Falling Flowers where you can also have a taste from the "fountain of youth" nearby.
Jeju - Continue your trip south to the tropical paradise of Jeju Island. Climb volcanoes and bathe in waterfalls before going scuba diving or fishing in the sea. See if you can find the street that appears to go uphill in both directions, and don't forget to pick up some Jeju oranges and chocolates to bring back with you.
Busan by night - Head westward to visit this bustling port city and go shark diving in the aquarium. Take a seafood tour down colorful streets and take the time to scout out Seokbulsa, the temple of stone.
Gyeongju - Further west and to the north is the city of Gyeongju, considered to be the "museum without walls." You'll definitely want to visit Bulguksa Temple and then take a trip out to Seokguram Grotto to see some incredible Buddhist sculptures. Anapji Pond also affords some fabulous photos and serene atmosphere.
Seoraksan - Finally, travel north again to Seoraksan National Park, where you can hike along the mountainside to some beautiful waterfalls or take the cable car to the top for breathtaking views. Sample the mushroom soup and mountain wine, and stop to visit the Bronze Buddha on your way out.
This is just a bit of what South Korea has to offer, but with a bit of searching and a sense of adventure, you're sure to discover all of this and more.
