It's fame comes from 1950 when the Americans landed there during the Korean War. The airport in Incheon is it's most important landmark. It is the airport everyone goes to in South Korea.
Characteristics of the City
Incheon is primarily an industrial city. Recently new neighborhoods have been built on land that was reclaimed from the ocean. Yeongjong Island and Gahghwa Islands are also considered in the city limits. Incheon tower is in the process of being constructed and once built in 2010 in boasts as being one of the tallest buildings in the world.
Places to Visit
There are several areas of the city worth visiting. One is Chinatown that was home to Chinese Merchants. Most Chinese fled the country in the 60's because of persecution by president Park Chung-hee. Chinatown is still in operation as a tourist destination and is off the end of the subway line connecting Incheon with Seoul.
Jayu Park is right next to Chinatown. There is a statue of General MacArthur who was honored for helping Korea – US relations during the Korean War.
Songdo Old City, not to be confused with the New City is near the airport. Here you can get some natural sushi and see some beautiful scenery. Here you will see SongDo Doklipkinymkan another area honoring MacArthur because he fought for Korea's peace. Next door is Noname's mountain with a hiking course. In SongDo Yuwonji you can bungee jump and in SongDo Resort you can ride a Ferris wheel and other rides and go swimming with a water-slide. In the winter it works as a sledding area.
In Wolmido you can go to a park with a nature walk. All the scientific names of the flowers there are posted. There is an amusement park nearby with food vendors and cafes.
Shopping and Dining
Go shopping in Bupyeong Station near Line 1 of Seoul subway. There is an underground mall here and above ground there are more shops, some western themed . There is also a bank here where you can change you money into the Korean Won.
There are tons of restaurants in Incheon and some of them are inexpensive while others will cost about $20 to $30 for a meal. There are many street vendors and you will find a lot of western restaurants and Fast Food Chains like Burger King there.
Hotels
There are many hotels in town as well. Some smaller hotels run 25000 won for a single and 40000 won for double. You will even find some western brand names like Best Western in town.
