Top 5 Must Do's in Japan

Edit This

If you make it to Japan, no matter what the reason, you must make sure that you do not miss out on the Japan Must Do's. Of course, each city in Japan is going to have its own list, but these Japan Must Do's are going to apply for any area of the country that you visit. So make sure that you do not miss these 'must have' experiences.

Onsen or Sento

The onsen or, as some people call it, sento is a public bathhouse that you must experience. The one thing that you need to know about the public bathhouses is that people are going to see you nude, but the bath houses are such a great experience that you need to get over that fact. When visiting the onsen you will be able to sit in hot or cold baths. You can even find herbal baths, and you can find a bathtub in any size that you need--which sure beats your 4-foot tub with the spout sticking out back home.

Shinkansen

You want to make sure that you take at least one ride on the bullet train while staying in Japan. These high-speed trains are an experience that you won’t find anywhere else. The trains can go as fast as 186 mph. You can find a 7, 14, or even 21-day rail pass that will get you unlimited travel, no matter where you plan to go.

Ryokan

While in Japan you need to stay at least 1 night in a ryokan rather than a regular hotel. Staying in one of these is worth the extra cost and dealing with a few rules because it allows you to experience the Japanese customs. At the ryokan, you will sleep on the floor, which is how the Japanese sleep, but you can also wear a robe, in public, anytime during the day.

Food

A big part of any vacation is taking part in the local foods scene. One thing that you want to make sure you try is sushi and sashimi, but you also need to try a traditional Japanese breakfast, which is going to include grilled fish. If you stay in a ryokan, the traditional breakfast is usually included in your stay.

Love Hotel

If you and your significant other are in Japan on a vacation together take at least a few hours 1 afternoon to check into a love hotel. You can also stay overnight but not unless you check in late in the evening. Love hotels are easy to spot because they will be either windowless buildings or tacky looking buildings. Most Japanese couples take advantage of the love hotel because they have little to no privacy at home.
