accommodation in Matsuyama

The city of Matsuyama is the capital of Ehime Prefecture and the largest city on Shikoku. This famous city is home to one of Japan’s oldest hot springs resorts, Dogo Onsen and eight Buddhist temples. Budget hotels are available in Matsuyama as well as luxury hotels.

Dogo Onsen

When you go to Dogo Onsen, there are several hotels across from the hot springs.  You can treat yourself to Japanese  style luxury at Yamatoya-Honten. This modern Sukiyazukuri style hotel was rebuilt in 1996 to satisfy even the most discerning customer. You can easily access the subway from this hotel as it is only a five minute walk.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to stay near the scenic Dogo Onsen hot springs. Across the street from the hot springs is a great value, the Hotel Patio Dogo. Hotel Patio Dogo is close to the walking mall and just around the corner from the Bocchan clock and a fountain for foot soaking. You can also take a leisurly stroll to nearby Dogo Onsen park and a tram stop. The friendly and attentive staff speaks English and are usually happy to upgrade you to a room with a view if you request it.  Unlike most rooms in Japan, the clean and well decorated rooms are amply sized.

City Center

If you prefer to stay in the city center, you can lavish yourself in comfort at the Ana Hotel Matsuyama. This elegant western style hotel is centrally located in the government and business district and the hot springs are only 2 kilometers away. To satisfy your cultural palate you do not have to wander too far. From the Ana Hotel Matsuyama you can stroll to the art museum, the Sakanouenokumo Museum and the Shikl Do House. The hotels abundance of amenities include: cable TV, room service, bidet, a fitness room, fluffy pillows and comforters, and currency exchange.

Castle Matsuyama

A popular place to go sightseeing in Matsuyama, Japan is the Castle Matsuyama. If you want to stay nearby, there is an adorable and authentic Japanese guesthouse at the bottom of the road called, not surprisingly, Guest House Matsuyama. Touted by world travelers as one of their favorites this guest house is on the most beautiful street in the city. While you are there try the delicious nearby restaurant Mirai Kunai. Order the Thai green curry with a cold beer and finish your meal with their unique rum chai tea.

I would like bed and breakfast for two people in a japanese homestay, preferrably if they have some English but this is not a priority.
