There is a guide in English to help you find your way around using the bus system in front of Shimonoseki Station. You can also buy a "daytime" bus pass, which will save you 25% of the fares between 9am and 4pm (but you have to purchase a card for 3,000 yen, so it depends on how much travelling you will be doing here during your stay).
