There are quite a few Zhong Shan Sights that are of historical significance, and thus, should be of great interest to students of modern Chinese history as well as all history lovers. Apart from the historical sites, there are many picturesque scenic spots that tourists can enjoy amidst the din and bustle of Zhong Shan City.

Historical Background

Zhong Shan is a busy city named after the legendary Dr. Sun Zhong Shan, more familiarly known to the Chinese people as Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Dr. Sun Yat-sen was born on November 12, 1866 in a peasant family in a small village of Xiangshan that is today called Zhong Shan City. The thinking of Alexander Hamilton and Abraham Lincoln largely influenced Sun's own radical philosophy. Unfortunately, Dr. Sun did not live long, and died of cancer in 1925 at the age of 58. Dr. Sun Zhong Shan is considered as an architect of modern China, and his contribution to the renaissance of China is widely remembered even to this day.

Three Important Sights

The local citizens of Zhong Shan City have built a museum in honor of their hero at Cuiheng Village, and have also named a street to commemorate his story. The entire street is permanently decorated with extraordinary murals and breathtakingly realistic sculptures. Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall is situated in the heart of Zhong Shan City. These three historical sites should not be missed by any visitor to Zhong Shan City.

Other Picturesque Tourist Spots

There are several other scenic spots which any tourist would certainly find fulfilling. Wugui Mountain, which has an imposing height of nearly 1700 feet, is situated at the mouth of the Pearl River with abundance of greenery.

The green cascade of the Yangtze River reservoir, which is located about nine kilometers from the main city, will mesmerize any visitor.

Xinzhong Dao is a busy transportation hub that forms the nerve center of Zhong Shan City. It is 3.5 kilometers long and 50 meters wide. Xinzhong Zhuijin, in Chinese, means "panoramic border," which is an apt name for this area.

The enchanting Sun Yat-sen Park of Zhong Shan, full of vegetation, attracts hordes of visitors right through the year. It is an ideal place for tourists to spend quality time with their families.

Zhongshan city is historically renowned for its abundance of chrysanthemums. Almost all family gardens of the city grow various types of chrysanthemums, which create a marvelous sight, particularly in autumn months. During mid-autumn every year, a mini "show" of chrysanthemums is held.

When to See the Sights

Zhong Shan is a tropical city, but it receives heavy rainfall. Summers are torrid and humid: not the right time for tourists to visit. The ideal time would be spring or end fall, when the entire city is cool, with pleasant winds wafting across.
