Museums in Zhong Shan
Edit ThisIn southern China, straddling the borders of the Guangdong province is Zhong Shan. This prefecture is famed for its dazzling architecture, expansive parks and industrial offerings; but what should also offer notoriety are the Zhong Shan Museums. For accuracy (and occasional whimsy), there are no better attractions.
Zhongshan Museum
With 3 levels devoted to art and a diligence to seeking new artifacts, the Zhongshan Museum is to be explored. With its emphasis on calligraphy, pottery and bronze-ware, it offers a broad view of China’s history. Those seeking an education will approve. And, though it is a perpetually popular destination, no reservations are required. Group tours are encouraged.
Zhongshan Art Museum
Formed to an impressive tangle of glass and stone, the Zhongshan Art Museum offers guests the chance to discover rare antiquities. With over 2000 square meters to search, visitors will find pieces from local artists and craftsmen. The purpose here is to celebrate the city’s many influences, and each is given in abundance. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Zhongshan Radio Museum
Though still considered a new destination (it was created in May 2005), the Zhongshan Radio Museum has quickly become a favorite among citizens and travelers alike. Learn the history of the radio in China--from its early conceptions to its value in bridging the long distances between villages. It’s an important element of all city life and now it receives its much deserved reward.
There are other Zhong Shan museums to find, each tucked along many of Zhong Shan's avenues. Days will easily be devoted to their discovery. Enjoy.
