Xishuang banna

Edit This

Xishuang banna is one of the most fascinating areas in China, home to the Dai people as well as several other minorities. It's full of beautiful countryside, remarkable wildlife and interesting villages as well as the Menghai, Mengzhe and Menghan Buddhist temples.

Lijiang

Edit This

Lijiang is a fascinating and beautifully preserved center of culture of Naxi nationality. It's not until you get into the old town-a delightful maze of cobbled streets, rickety old wooden buildings, gushing canals and the hurly-burly of market life-that you realize Lijiang is more than a boring Chinese urban sprawl in the middle of nowhere.

Shangri-La

Edit This

Shangri-La (Pinyin: Xianggelila), previously known as Zhongdian, is a small, primarily Tibetan town located 5 hours drive north of Lijiang.  The Chinese part of town is typical for the area, but a recent bout of development in the old city center is creating an interesting old town to explore.  Many travelers use this town as a gateway into Tibet, either travelling many days overland by Jeep to Lhasa, or by flying from the city's airport. However, the town itself is a tourist destination, primarily due to the nearby Songzanlin Monestary.
