Green Molly Restaurant & Pub (Gaoxinn District)
Let’s get straight to the point here. It’s good. You should go there. If you’re hungry or in need of a drink, just use the address/phone number at the bottom of the page or in the listing and go.
Green Molly Restaurant & Pub (Green Molly’s for short) is located in the middle of the block on the west side of Gaoxin road, between Keji and Guanghua roads. You need go behind some buildings and it is sitting right in the middle with some green windows (back entrance). If you’re coming from the other side there is a wooden path and a garden along with a sign. From the HIBC building it is basically north-northwest, and from the large building just north of the HIBC building (gao ke da sha), it is straight west from its northern edge. Hope that helps… If that doesn’t get you there, just look around for a leprechaun named McSomething or other, because that’s the best I can do.
The restaurant focuses primarily on Italian cuisine, but adds in some dishes from Mexico, Spain, Southeast Asia, the Mediterranean and America. The pub is a typical Irish/English pub that will make one who is familiar with this type of establishment instantly feel at home. The restaurant is on the main floor, the pub is in the basement and its target market is mostly local Chinese and expats.
NOTES: Here, in no particular order, I’ve compiled observations from my first couple of trips to the place:
Restaurant Atmosphere
Vivid colors, Mediterranean/Spanish looking interiors, fountains, can seat about 60, but very cozy, lots of unique “flair items” (I mean that in a good way), old world music, solid tables and chairs, generally pleasing to the senses
Restaurant Food & Drink
Carries usual mix of appetizers, soups, salads, pizza and main courses including seafood and steak. I had a taste of their bruschetta, quesadillas (with salsa/chips), salami pizza and tuna salad. It was good, but didn’t blow me away (give it some time). For drinks, they feature a wide variety of coffee, smoothies, ice cream drinks, tea and some beer and wine choices.
Pub Atmosphere
The basement level pub is decked out with dark wood and pictures everywhere. It has a really nice horseshoe bar, tables, booths and great bar chairs. The foot rail is at just the right height. This may seem unimportant, but it isn’t if you’re sitting at the bar after a long day and want to rest your legs. There’s a billiard table, foosball table and even air hockey. Space for about 120 + people. They open around 7, it’s busy some nights while other nights are pretty laid-back
