Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeFour hours North west of Lhasa is one of the holiest lakes in Tibet,Nam-tso(elev:4718m). The lake is large & said to be over 70kms long& bounded by snow peaks to the east & north.
Its a popular destination with back packers & alot of tour companies offer various kinds of deals heading to the lake. Prices vary but with so much competition its easy enough to get a good deal. Most accomodation is either tented or in yurt style 'rooms' with any number of locals offering food, poney rides etc.
This is a great place for hiking & day walks.
Tashi dor monastry is close by & built into the hillsides dramatically surrounded by prayer flags, mani stones & yak skulls. Nam-tso is also one of the best places in Tibet(outside of the Chang Tang) to see the last of the Tibetan Nomads whose black tents can be seen dotted around the lake.
Its said the Heinrich Harrer(author of Seven years in Tibet) passed over the near by Tangula mountains on his journey to Lhasa. The lake is an extrodianry turqouise colour & best viewed from the nearby hills at sunset.
