Sights in Qingdao
Edit ThisQingdao Brewery
Edit ThisFounded by Germans in 1903, Qingdao Beer has gained worldwide fame today. The beer is one of the province’s most famous exports. It is said that the secret behind this refreshing beer is the mineral water taken from nearby Mount Lao. If the fans of Qingdao Beer want to take a trip to see the brewery, you can take No.25 bus to the spot, the factory runs its own tours and English tour guides are available. Free samples are given - definite incentive to visit the brewery, including a very drinkable dark ale, but you'll have to sit through a lot of statistics first.

Lu Xun Park
Edit ThisLying on the south of the Laiyang Lu, Lu Xun Park is the most different park near the sea. Near to the Little Qingdao in the west, next to the No.2 beach in the east, the whole park is attractively decorated with the red riff, blue wave, green pine, quiet pass and lush hill. The park was first built in 1929 and named "Ruoyu Park'at that time. Later it was renamed twice. In 1950, the park was renamed as "Lu Xun Park" to commemorate Mr. Lu Xun, a great proletariat writer.

Xinhao Hill Park
Edit ThisXinhao Hill Park means signal hill because a beacon was once on its peak. To its right, there remains one of Qingdao's most astounding pieces of German architecture. Also on this hill is the Xinhao Hill Hotel. Built in 1905 the hotel is overdone in the chunky Bavarian style. Not only it was once the home of the German governor, but also Chairman Mao did hang out here as well, also not simultaneously.

Protestant Church
Edit ThisThe Protestant Church is somewhat a plainer building, a single structure built in 1910 with a bell tower and clock. The white clock face on the green tower is still inscribed with the manufacturer's name,"J.F. Weule, Bockenem am Harz". If you knock at the door, the Chinese priest will probably show you around and inform you that he has a congregation of 1000 people every Sunday.

Catholic Church
Edit ThisThe Catholic Church is a German relic built on a hill by the Germans in 1934 and dedicated to St Emil. Regular services are held on Sunday mornings, when the church opens to the public. With its Teutonic shapes and angles - red roofs, and intricate iron balconies - this area, the old German Concession, provokes an eerie sense of dislocation. The marriage of German architecture and contemporary China has created bizarre juxtapositions, with oriental stone lions sitting in discreet European gardens and buildings with grand, pompous facades now used as little shops and laundries.

Little Qingdao
Edit ThisLittle Qingdao is a small peninsula covering 0.012 sq kilometers. It was originally a part of the mainland. But with the muchly erosion of the seawater, it became apart from the mainland. The most outstanding scene is the tiny white lighthouse built on its peak by German in 1900. Today it can be reached via a sandbank next to the old Soviet-made submarine. It is really a nice place to chill out in one of the cafes.
