As the capital of Jiangsu province, Nanjing is the political, economical, cultural, and industrial center in the province and a city full of well-educated and highly skilled people. The city is a home of more than twenty major universities and colleges, with Nanjing University consistently ranked as one of the best five in China. Nanjing is on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, and at the junction close to the Great Canal, which made it a transport hub for centuries. Historically, there have been six dynasties that established their capitals there, so Nanjing is also known as "the Capital of Six Dynasties".
