Practical Information in Huang Shan

Edit This
Huangshan City is located in Anhui Province and is a Chinese repository of the region’s culture and natural history. It has a subtropical climate and is popular with tourists, although one might want to avoid the rainy season from May to August. Some of the major attractions here are: Tunxi Ancient Street (with its marvelous little arts and crafts shops); Flower Mountain; Enigma Caves; the Xidi Ancient Village (a World Cultural Heritage Site); and Tangyue Memorial Archway. Public transport is conveniently available in the city. An hour from the city, you can also visit the Mt. Huangshan Scenic Spot, famed for its surrounding mountaintops, trees, springs, waterfalls, and cloud formations. The area’s distinctive Hui cuisine dates back over a century and is referred to as one of "the Eight Major Cuisines of China.” Wild game and fish are braised, stewed, and steamed, and the freshness of all ingredients is emphasized. Some of the highly recommended restaurants are: Laojie Diyi Lou (on the Tunxi Ancient Street); Piyun Hui Fu Cai (on Binjinang Road East); Tunxi Huicai Guan (on Huangshan West Road); and the restaurant in the Shilin Grand Hotel (at the Mt. Huangshan Scenic Spot). The best hotel in Huangshan is the Huangshan International Hotel in the city center. Two others which are highly recommended are the Huangshan Golf Hotel and the Huangshan Tangkou Hotel (the latter being situated near the Scenic Spot previously mentioned).
