Outlying Islands Hotel Deals
accommodation in Outlying Islands
Edit ThisThe Oulying Islands hotel, bed and breakfast, and hostel options offer excellent choices for travelers looking for more unique, less-urban, or cheaper places to stay. In contrast with the flashy, modern and often pricy hotels in Hong Kong, there is a refreshing variety of more eclectic accommodations in the Outlying Islands. With plenty of sun, beaches, excellent seafood, and a tranquil atmosphere, a stay on the Outlying Islands is the perfect tropical vacation.
Commute to Hong Kong
Don’t worry about the commute to Hong Kong from the Outlying Islands. Ferry rides are cheap, relatively regular, and take from twenty minutes to about an hour, maximum.
General Accommodations
On many islands, you can find at least a room in a basic village house. Only a few islands offer high-quality hotels. If you are planning to have an extended visit, try renting holiday apartments, available in most islands.
Lantau Island Hotels
The majority of accommodations are found on Lantau Island, the biggest island. From here, the ferry ride to Hong Kong is only half an hour. Several luxurious hotels are located just five minutes away from the Hong Kong International Island. They offer amazing views of the Hong Kong skyline. Although these hotels are still rather expensive, they are still cheaper than what you would be paying for in Hong Kong.
There are also plenty of beach-side hotel options, featuring temples and nature walks and dolphin watching. I also found a variety of great hotels near tourist attractions such as the giant Buddha or Hong Kong Disneyland. To get a real taste of rural beauty, try the Fung Wong Bungalow Centre at Shui Hau. It is along the coast, and, since it is right off the main road, easy to get to.
Lantau Island Hostel
Budget
travelers will love The Hong Kong Bank Foundation SG Davis Youth Hostel. Accommodations
are a minimal, but affordable. It is only 15 minutes away from the giant
Buddah.
The Backpacker’s Island: Lamma
Backpackers flock to the island of Lamma, which features a car-free, quaint village called Yung She Wan. There are plenty of rooms to rent in this village. However, it is easier to make a reservation once you’re actually there. It is home to international ex-patriots and many hippy wanderers.
Cheung Chau Island
Cheung Chau Island has charming hotels to stay. The Warwick Hotel is an excellent location for wedding parties. It features many excellent amenities, such as a swimming pool and an excellent restaurant. Travelers to this island can also stay at a significantly cheaper and very comfortable bed and breakfast, the Cheung Chau B&B.
Tung Ping Chau Island
Tung Ping
Chau Island is a simple place to spend the
night. The island features a tiny hostel and other modest locations, all at
excellent prices.
