Getting Around

The simplest way for a traveler to get around Lantau and see the sights is to take a guided tour. They are very informative and usually relatively inexpensive.

For the independent traveler, and even cheaper. are the subway/tram routes which service major destinations on Lantau Island from Hong Kong and Kowloon; and, a complete bus system which is easy to understand by the first-time visitor.

The ferry service to Hong Kong Island is very fast and fairly regular, but more expensive than the tram/subway route.  The subway becomes an above-ground tram for most of the areas on Lantau Island, providing the visitor good views of the island, bays and mountains.
