Getting Around Hong Kong Island on a Budget
If you do decide to stay at the Jockey Club Mount Davis Youth Hostel, you will be glad to hear that there is a free shuttle bus from the ShunTak Center at Shueng Wan (the bus stop by the Macau Ferry Pier).
The cheapest way to get around is through the bus system. Even getting to the airport is affordable by using the airport bus service that stops every 10 to 20 minutes at major hotels in Central District and Causeway Bay (onHong Kong Island) and at Tsimshatsui in Hong Kong. Some hotels are reluctant to dispense airport bus information because it is the cheapest way of getting to the airport and it would interfere with their own paid transportation services. On airport buses, however, there are no individual luggage racks (just a communal baggage bay) and the buses' steps are really steep. Travelers with heavy bags should take a cab instead. Routes A2 and A3 serve the Hong Kong Island routes towards the airport. Please carry exact change when traveling by bus as bus operators cannot provide change.
