White Horse Temple

In front of the Mount. Mang, facing the Luoshui River, the world-famous White Horse Temple in Luoyang, one of the most ancient cities in China, is the first Buddhist temple introduced into China. The original architectures inside are of Ming and Qing style, and the 18 arhats statues reserved is the only statues of the kind in China. With more than 1, 900 years history , the White Horse Temple was connected with a famous mythical Chinese novel Journey to the West. In the story, Xuan Zhuang, a famous monk of the Tang Dynasty traveled to India in order to get the Buddhist scriptures and statues.He had four escorts: Wukong, Bajie, Shaseng, and a White Dragon Horse during his journey. It is said that the temple was named after the horse in the novel.
