Longmen Caves

As one of the three caves representing the peak of Buddhist cave art, together with the Dunhuang Grottos and Datong Grottos, the Longmen caves at Luoyang is very impressed to the entire people home and overseas. It is a group of more than 100,000 statues of Buddha and his disciples caved on the cliff of the Yi River in 494 AD. During the 19th and 20th century, the western hunters rushed into China. They beheaded many figures as possible as they can. These heads now are kept in the museums and private collections of the Europe and the North America. Around the Longmen Caves, you can also visit the other two famous caves: the Binyang Caves and the Ten Thousand Buddha Cave.
