Climate

The climate here can get really hot and humid during July and August, when the temperature reaches up to 29 degree Celsius. Summer rains can be very heavy and the area is subject to typhoons during this period. The ideal time of the year for visiting Hainan is from November to March, since the climate is cool, breezy and pleasant and makes for an excellent time to venture outdoors.

Junpo Carnival

This festival is celebrated in honor of Madam Xian, who brought growth and development to the people of Hainan. It has been conducted by the local people for the past 1300 years. During the Junpo Carnival, visitors can witness the locals dressed in unusual, quirky and eye-catching costumes. The celebrations and parades carry on for a four-day period in the month of February.

Ethnic Li-Miao Festival

The Ethnic Li-Miao Festival is very important for the minority Li and Miao population here and it takes place on the third of March every year. It’s primarily a festival for the young people who come out into the streets dancing and singing in colorful costumes. Competitions are held for them and visitors can see how the young, talented contestants compete with each other in cultural activities. An interesting event is the Bamboo Dance. Other popular events are wrestling and shooting. This festival gives you a good insight into the local culture and tradition.

Sanya Sailing Race

Held every year in November, the Sanya Sailing Race attracts sailing enthusiasts from all corners of the world. The colorful event takes place in the famous Dadonghai Bay, which becomes the bustling hub of tourist activity all through the racing event.
