Climate

Sanya enjoys a warm temperature year round making it an ideal vacation spot. Even in January, the waters are warm enough to swim in so long--as you're wearing a wet suit.

Getting Around

The city itself is very accessible. Most people choose to walk to most places as the beach resorts are all centrally located. You will also find a number of motorcycle and sidecar taxis for slightly longer trips, and bus lines are available for greater distances. You can strike out on your own with a car or bike rental. Be aware however, it is illegal to rent a bike or car unless you have a valid Chinese driver's license.

Language & Currency

You can expect to hear Chinese here, but a surprise will come in the form of the Russian language which is also widely spoken. The currency is the Chinese Yuan.

Districts

Take note that the city is divided into four districts. Despite it's name, the Sanya Bay Beach district is not the best place for a swim. It's a bit polluted and deserted. However, you will find some wonderful seafood restaurants here., but for the beautiful beaches, head to the Dadongi Hi district. You'll also find high end dining here. For Sanya City proper is filled with fun street-side kareoke and dancing as well as cute tourist shops. Slightly outside of town, the resort like Yalong Bay area features well-kept beaches and five-star resorts. Be prepared for higher prices here though.
