Huanhua Festival
Based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar, the Huanhua Festival is known as the flower exchanging festival. Each year, locals exchange flowers with one another in prayer for a happy life in the coming year. The rose is both the most popular, as well as the most common flower traded during the day. Held in Qiongshan city, the festival focuses on friendship, wellness, and happiness.
Hainan International Coconut Festival
The Hainan International Coconut Festival origins began in early April of 1992. The idea of the festival was to promote tourism and open arms to all cultures. Hainan has been known as Coconut Island from early days, and centers on teaching this deep history and culture of Hainan while learning and absorbing that of other nations. The spotlight of the festival combines physical sports, touring, culture, customs, and trade.
Tianya Haijiao Joy Festival/Danzhou Folk Song Festival
A wonderful family Festival is the Tianya Haijiao Joy Festival. Held in Autumn, the festival is celebrated in the Tianya Haijiao Sightseeing Zone. Throughout the day, those rejoicing enjoy dance performances, moon cakes, folk lantern displays, and mountain songs all while observing the moon. The Danzhou Folk Song Festival is very similar. Also held in Autumn, the festival focuses around the moon, and includes lighting lanterns and shooting fireworks.
The Third Day of the Third Lunar Month
The Third Day of the Third Lunar Month is a festival where people indulge in campfire songs, dragon boat racing, and is an opportunity for young Li men and women to court one another in attempt to find love and happiness. Held in late March, it is a sizeable event that includes sports, culture, trade, and tourism. A joyful celebration for everyone to take pleasure in.
Hainan Joy Festival
Taking place in late November, the Hainan Joy Festival is all about joyfulness. Taking place in Danzhou City, the festival has been observed for nine years by the Hainan community. An elaborate opening ceremony kicks off the festivity. The performance includes over 10 drum performances such as dragon, elephant feet, and steel. The show is followed by a parade, fireworks and one heck of a good party.
