Practical Information in Guangzhou
Edit ThisCASUAL TRAVEL:
Remember to avoid traveling in the second half of April, and the second half of October due to the Canton Fair unless you are actually attending the event. Hotel costs are usually five times as usual and the city is extremely busy.
TIPPING:
Most places do not require tips. If you do, note that some may refuse it, so don't be offended.
ONLINE BOOKING:
Using some major travel sites to reserve hotels in Canton costs much more. World66 site has links to its partner site -- that seems much cheaper.
SUBWAY:
If you plan to only use taxi to get around, give subway a try. Bus rides may be intimidating, but subway is a convinient and cost-saving alternative.
ILLEDGAL / SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES:
There are people on the street solicit money exchange and airport rides. Walk away from it -- it may be tempting.
