Festivals in Guangzhou

Performances by folk groups from China and other countries are given at these festivals. September through October features the festivals. Local delicacies available for tasting and shopping are offered.
Flower Fair of Guangzhou
December brings the flower fair to an end on the last day of the month right before New Year’s Day. Flowers line the streets in Binjiang, Jiaoyu, and Dongchuan. Guangzhou residents transport their flowers to these areas to create the flower fair.
Food Festival of Guangzhou
Dining on the hundreds of restaurants’ food brings the best variety of Guanghou to this festival. Cooking tournaments from hundreds of participants offer exciting dishes during the last day of the festival.
Dragon Boat Festival
Tournaments of the dragon boat in Dongguan and Shunde are held in May annually. Spectators and visitors by the thousands come out to cheer their favorite competitors. Creating an energized atmosphere, the sounds of gongs and drums are heard across the crowds.
Litchi Festival
Litchi fruits are shared while viewing performances of folk dances and songs. Held in June through July, the competition for the “Litchi Cup” entertains tourists and locals. Activities offered are photo exhibitions, paintings and other fine arts, demonstrations, calligraphy and movies.
Spring Festival of Shantou
January fun begins with this cultural festival. Colorful lanterns and streamers decorate areas all across the city. Exhibitions are given along with trade fairs. Many tourists from overseas come to celebrate and take part in this festival.
Liannan Pangu Festival
Villagers parade along the villages in the region, carrying images of King Pangu and wife. Drums and gongs ring out in the streets along the procession. Cakes and rice wine line the front doors for serving citizens in need. Senior men begin singing as they follow the parade and offer a one-of-a-kind cultural experience for tourists.
Guangzhou Floral Parade of the New Year
New Year’s Day brings this well-known festival. Colorful performances entertain many in the grand opening ceremony. Dozens of floral floats parade through the streets in Guangzhou. Exquisitely decorated, they tour along the street and offer the flavor of life in Guangzhou.
Yangjiang Kite Festival
Visitors to Guangzhou during September see colorful kites flying along the hills near this city. Varying in sizes and shapes, the kites soar above the many participants in this festival. Kites are self-made and present different colors and patterns.
