Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China. It is located at the north rim of the extensive North China plain and on latitude 39‹56" N and longitude 116‹20" E. Topographically, it is high in the northwest and low in the south-east. To the west, north and east the country is surrounded by mountains, to the south the gentle plain is gradually dipping to the Bohai Bay. Beijing's climate is dominated by a typical warm semi-humid continental monsoon. Administratively, Beijing is divided into 12 districts and 6 counties with a registered permanent residence of 10.9551 million people. Chrysanthemums and Chinese roses are the flowers of Beijing whereas Oriental arborvitae and Chinese scholartree are the city's trees.
