Things to do
Edit ThisFujairah is in the United Arab Emirates on the Indian Ocean and is an up and coming resort area. Most people come to the region for the beaches, but there are a few other things one can do.
Beaches
Most of the beaches on Fujairah are private beaches run by the resorts that are built on the beaches. If you are staying at one of the resorts you can check to see if they have water sport rental or water scooters and jet skis as many of them do.
Water Sports
The Fujairah Rotana Hotel is near the water and they have access to many different water sport rentals. Le Meridien Al Aqah hotel also has some rentals but usually emphasize the restorative benefits of the waters near its beach. The spa is wonderful and swimming is satisfactory. There are many other hotels that are near the water capitalizing on water activities in Fujairah. The only problem is that you have to be a paying guest or with a paying guest of the hotel to take advantage of the activities.
Water Scooters
Travel to nearby Kalba and the Al Shatha Scooter Rental on the northern
beach. This is a public beach and you don’t have to register at a hotel
to have access to water scooters and other water sport equipment.
Scooters cost 90 Dhs for 30 minutes and 150Dhs for 60 minutes and it is
open every day. Be sure to call ahead to book the scooters or you run
the risk of not being able to get one. The city of Kalba has been kind
enough to zone one end of the beach for water scooters so they will not
endanger swimmers.
Marina
Fujairah Marina offers some boat trips and diving in the Indian Ocean, but they don’t advertise. It is best to go there and see what they have to offer that day. It is expected that once this area becomes a little more developed there will be more places to offer rentals of water sport equipment in the future.
Hiking
Fujairah has many hiking opportunities. Ain Al Ghamour is about 20 km south of the city and lies in a mountainous area. This is a great place to hike and the springs are used by people who have arthritis. The region has mountains and waterfalls with beautiful large and smaller valleys. The landscape is dotted with many springs some of them are warm and some cold.
As the area develops there are sure to be many more activities to do in and around the Fujairah area. For now, you can always jump on a water scooter and ride the waves.
