'Dirham’ is the currency of Abu Dhabi. The abbreviation is Dhs. The limitation on currency that can be carried into the country is set at Dhs 40,000 or its equivalent foreign currency. Foreign exchange counters are widely available in Abu Dhabi. Hotels also exchange money for their guests. Traveler's checks and credit cards are accepted anywhere in Abu Dhabi. It is advisable to carry traveler's checks in UK Pounds or US Dollar. This will save you from extra charges.
Driving
Visitors of foreign countries are allowed to drive in Abu Dhabi if they have an international license issued from their country of origin. National licenses are not acceptable. But if you are a resident of any of the Gulf Co-operation Council or GCC countries, you can drive around Abu Dhabi. The license from your country of origin will suffice. For visitors outside the GCC countries, a word of caution, the insurance companies will not cover you for claims of any sort.
Dressing
Even though Abu Dhabi shows a high tolerance towards foreigners as far as dress code is concerned, it would be advisable to dress modestly. This would communicate a feeling of respect towards the traditional and conservative culture of Abu Dhabi. Be it the beach or clubs, stay on the safer side, by not wearing excessively revealing clothes. As far as dressing according to the climatic conditions are concerned, summer clothing is suitable all year round. A sweater will come handy in malls or during the evenings.

The electricity is supplied at 220 to 240 volts at 50 Hertz. You will find a square three pin socket wherever you go. However, it is advisable to carry an adapter along. Hotels do provide these plug adapters. You can also buy the adapters in the local markets here. They stock up well, with all possible types of adapters.
