Getting Around in Abu dhabi
Edit ThisAre you looking for convenient mode of transport for getting around in Abu Dhabi? Follow these Abu Dhabi transportation guidelines to explore the emirates in the best possible way.
By Taxi
Roads
in Abu Dhabi are especially built for cars. Therefore, the best way to
get around is either to rent a car or take a taxi. Taxis in Abu Dhabi
are white and gold in color and have green signs installed on top. A
ride across town will cost you approximately Dhs. 10, which is around 4
USD. Metered taxi fares start from Dhs. 2.50. If budget permits, you
can also opt for plush silver taxis with white signs. The fares of
silver taxis start from Dhs. 3. Private taxi services like Al Ghazal
and National are also available in Abu Dhabi. Silver colored taxis have
now penetrated the local taxi business in Abu Dhabi. However, their
fares are higher than that of the standard local taxis. Do negotiate
the fares before commencing your trip.
By Car
If
you are skilled at driving and have a valid license, then you can also
consider the option of renting a car for exploring the city. However,
it is recommended that you get accustomed with the driving laws and
regulations in Abu Dhabi before actually taking to the roads. Do not
drive under the influence of alcohol.
By Bus
Buses
are available to the main parts of the city. You can get buses from the
bus station situated on Hazaa Bin Zayed Road. Inter city buses are also
available from this bus station. Bus fares are reasonable: A single
ride costs around Dhs 1, while a three-day bus pass will cost you
around Dhs 3. However, these buses do not have arrangements for the
handicapped.
As one of the richest and most modern cities in the world, Abu Dhabi transportation is just as wonderful as its facilities and infrastructure. No matter where you want to go, you can find appropriate transportation that is reasonably priced, comfortable and easy to use, as well.
Taxis
The white and gold taxis are the primary means for local transport in this emirate, especially if you do not have your own car. Hiring a taxi can take you anywhere within the emirate or even from here to another emirate. You would also have to use another taxi for traveling back to Abu Dhabi. Taxis in this emirate charge fare according to the price that has been issued by the emirate. While this is great, most taxi drivers can’t speak English, so communication can be a problem at times.
Bus
If you are looking for a cheaper means of transportation to get around this Abu Dhabi, you can try the buses. Most of the buses here are air conditioned and also have separate seating areas for men and women. Traveling around Abu Dhabi only takes a few dirhams, which is quite reasonable. You can also find public bus transportation services between Abu Dhabi and other emirates. These are frequent and cost between Dhs.15 to Dhs.30, depending on where you are traveling.
Car
You can also find car hire services to get around Abu Dhabi. However, this can be expensive, particularly if you plan to do a lot of sightseeing. Car hire is the most popular means of transportation in this emirate as it is hot all throughout the year.
