Sights in Side
Edit ThisSide, Turkey is one of the most classically and ethnically beautiful places in Turkey. It is as much known for its rich culture and striking natural beauty as for its old streets and heritage structures. The Side sights guide lists some famous places of tourist attractions that you can visit on your trip to this dexterous east meets west town.
City Gate
This is a famous old ruin that has been cleverly preserved in such a way that its original form is intact. The gate has weathered due to various geographical changes that have taken place down the ages. Once you cross the gates, you will come to a place that has two streets on both sides. They are surrounded by shops and beautiful porticos. Then there are broken stubs near the Roman Baths. The public bath has been converted into a museum and has an impressive display of Roman statues and sarcophagi.
Theatre
Aspendos is a huge amphitheatre built by the Roman Civilization and ingeniously preserved by the locals. The theatre is separated from the mainland with a wall and a moat. Visitors can easily get an extraordinary view of the entire city from the amphitheatre. The majestic verticals of the theatre are brilliantly supported on arches. This amphitheatre was constructed during the Hellenistic period. It is considered to be one of the largest theatres in Turkey. During the months of June and July, you can expect to enjoy operas, ballets and musical concerts here. Almost 15000 people can be accommodated at a go.
Roman Temples
Side is known to preserve the remains of the Roman culture very well. The Apollo temple is situated near the sea. Its four major pillars face the harbor and the sea waves splashing on the pillar are an attractive sight. Near the theatre, there is the Roman temple of Dionysus. It is an architectural masterpiece of the ancient era and features a beautiful fountain in front of it.
Manavgat Waterfalls
The mountains of Manavgat are known for their forests, horse riding and rafting. They are also famous for the beautiful waterfalls that dot their landscape. The falls are not too high. However, the gush of the water is extremely powerful. It comes out with great force and splashes like white foam on the rocks below. The entire view is extremely refreshing.
Side is a fascinating town that entwines history, heritage, architecture and nature into a powerful mesh, which is hard to resist.
