Shopping in Side
Edit ThisSide is a charming Mediterranean city caught between Eastern civilization and a modern western ethos. The ‘dual personality’ region is as much famous for its heritage mosques and colorful streets as for its quaint bazaars selling exotic stuff. The Side shopping guide lists some beneficial tips for visitors to who want to shop their way through the alleys of this beguiling Turkish town.
Magavgat Magavgat is virtually a shopping city that is more ethnic than the other traditional shopping centres all around the country. If you are looking for thorough-bred Turkish goods, the old-fashioned shops tucked away in the corner of this massive structure are your best bet. Visitors can source everything from brass and copperware, jewelery and ceramics, to Turkish carpets, kilims and leather goods. There are a number of antique shops as well, however visitors must keep in mind that it’s illegal to sell, buy, keep in possession or export antiquities that date back to more than a century or two. Several carpets shops therefore provide customers with a certificate from the museum stating that the items they are about to purchase are not antiques and can be legally bought and sold. It is pragmatic to insist on the certificate, especially when buying coins, carpets, paintings, ceramics, metal creations, and sculptures to avoid trouble later. There is also an increasing trend of fake goods being sold in the name of real collector’s items in most Turkish markets, so check thoroughly and insist on a certificate of authenticity.Main Street
For coats, handbags, t-shirts, fake designer denims and chic leather jackets, head to the main street of Side that is lined-up by several stores selling great apparel and accessories at bargain prices. Visitors can bargain down the price to up to 75% of the price originally quoted by the merchant. There is a trick though - if the store owner refuses to accept your final price, just walk out and you will be invited back almost every time. While fixing a price for your purchase, keep in mind that the stuff you are buying is an imitation and not a genuine piece.
Side Leather Store is a nice place to pick up leather coats and their service is also exceptionally good and attentive. The store even arranges a free taxi pick-up and drop to your hotel with absolutely no obligation to buy. Side is a juxtaposition of chic bars, trendy night clubs and fine dining restaurants along with old streets and ancient markets that lend it a beautiful binary identity.Contributors
