Turkey (Eyewitness Travel Guides), Author: DK Publishing, ISBN: 789483297 is part of a series of travel guides, and is a good basic primer for the potential highlights of a trip to Turkey.

Hints and Tips

With a comprehensive hints and tips section, the book provides helpful and at times invaluable advice, especially on general tourist "worries" such as bartering, dress code and local customs.

Region by Region

As this is a general Turkey guide, it provides lots of information which may not be relevant to Marmaris in particular, but also takes you through the country region by region. There are Marmaris specific pages which touch upon the castle, old quarter, bar street and also the hotels and bazaar.

Fantastic Illustrations

One of the real highlights of this guide are the many photographs and illustrations (1,200, in fact), which give the reader a wonderful insight into the real Turkey and its beauty.

Other Information

This is a good "starter" guide for the tourist market, but it's not "in depth" enough to please and to be of great value to the seasoned traveler.

A downside is that the weight  of the book. At just over 400 pages, it's not conducive to being carried around, as it certainly is not pocket sized.

The information in the book tends to be on the lightweight side and again appears geared towards the casual tourist, but there is a very comprehensive index which is well set out and easy to use.
