Izmir is the third most populated city in Turkey and it rivals Istanbul as the major port city of the country. Izmir is a city where the new and old coexist happily and the Eastern and Western cultures meet together in a relaxed beach setting. Izmir is well known for the international arts festival that take place in the summer.

Getting There by Plane

The Adnan Menderes International Airport (IATA airport code: ADB) serves Izmir. Several international and local airline companies offer flights to and from Izmir. British Airways, Monarch Airlines and Thomson Airways offer direct flights to and from England. Thomas Cook Airlines offers direct flights to and from Brussels in Belgium. Germanwings, Hamburg International, Lufthansa, Pegasus, SunExpress, and Turkish Airlines offer direct flights to and from Germany. Also, there are several local airlines such as Atlasjet that connect Izmir with other cities in Turkey. After you arrive to Izmir, you have the option to take one of the several shuttle buses that make several stops at different key locations in Izmir. There are also taxis available but they are quite expensive.

Getting There by Bus

Located in the Altindaq borough, Otogar is the bus terminal that serves the city of Izmir. Across Turkey there are several local bus companies that offer trips to and from Izmir. It is important that at the time of booking you inquire about the stops that the bus will make once it arrives at Izmir because it is common that bus companies have several branch offices across the city.
