Edit This

Creating a Fethiye things to do list is easy, with activities that please nearly everyone. The city of Fethiye, Turkey is rapidly building up its tourist trade and rivaling larger cities such as Istanbul and Athens. It offers many different types of activities for visitors. Those that are active and adventurous will enjoy the swimming, diving and hiking opportunities. Those that enjoy an active night life will have countless bars and clubs to choose from. Those that enjoy exploring the ancient relics of history could hardly ask for a better place to see.

The Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon surrounds the city of Fethiye and has a reputation for being possibly the most beautiful beach in the world. The water is clear and the brightest blue. The scenery is nicely decorated with palm, pine and olive trees as far as the eye can see. The Blue Lagoon has a good supply of facilities such as toilets and changing rooms. There is also a nice selection of snack bars and restaurants nearby to choose from. The beach area is meticulously cared for and clean. There is an entrance fee of 2 million Turkish Lira to enter the beach area. Before you panic, keep in mind that this is just over 1 US dollar.

The Amphitheater

Near the marina are the remains of an old amphitheater. It is quite an impressive site, but it's situated near private homes and it is sadly not cared for. There is no admission cost and locals don't seem to mind the tourists taking a look. There is hardly anyone else around, making it a perfect place for a quiet picnic or an easy, relaxed day.

The Lycian Tombs

The Lycian people had an interesting way of burying their dead. All burial tombs were carved into the side of mountains. If the person worked as a priest, their tomb was made in the shape of a temple. If the person was a sailor, they were buried in something resembling a ship. Ordinary people were buried in tombs shaped like houses. The Lycian tombs make an interesting trip where you can discover what role people performed by how they were buried.

St. Nicolas Island

Many people don't realize that jolly old St. Nicolas was a real person and he was born in Turkey. St. Nicolas Island is named after him and is located between Fethiye and Oludeniz. The island is full of ancient relics and ruins. It is a small island, but is crammed full of history. There are several old churches, tombs and well preserved mosaics and frescoes to admire.
