Practical Information in Fethiye
Edit ThisFethiye, Turkey is one of the most visited and most popular resort towns in Turkey because of its gorgeous coastline and pristine beaches. More and more visitors arrive each year to gaze at the dramatic Tomb of Amytas built into the cliff above town and to take advantage of the Mediterranean locale.
Location
Fethiye is a city in the Mugla Province of the Aegean region in the country of Turkey. Part of Turkey is considered southwestern Asia where it borders Georgia, Armenia and Iran to its east, Iraq and Syria to its southeast, and then part of Turkey is considered southeastern Europe where it borders Bulgaria and Greece. The Black Sea flanks Turkey to its north, the Mediterranean Sea borders Turkey on the south, and the Aegean Sea borders Turkey on the west. The precise geographical coordinates of Fethiye are 36 degrees 37' 18" North, 29 degrees 6' 59" East. Turkey is considered to be slightly larger in size than Texas.
Population
The approximate number of residents living in Fethiye (estimated in 2008) was roughly 68,000. It is estimated, during the summer months (June through August), Fethiye's population can rise anywhere between 500,000 and 600,000 people. Most visitors coming to Fethiye are from the United Kingdom and Europe.

The official currency of Turkey is the Turkish Lira (TL) which is made up of 500, 1000, 2500, and 5000 coins, as well as 1000, 5000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 paper notes. The best way to exchange your currency to Turkish Lira is to visit any of the exchange bureaus in the major cities, or to go to any Turkish post office. ATMs and Cashpoints are a great way to pull Turkish Lira from your bank account, but it is advisable to check with your local bank to make sure your cards are accepted in Turkey. Traveler's checks are accepted, and can be cashed at any major bank in Turkey. Major credit cards are widely accepted in major cities at established shops, restaurants and hotels. It is advisable to always carry a small amount of cash on you as street vendors and some remote places do not accept credit cards or traveler's checks.
