Things to do in Dalaman

Edit This

Dalaman is filled with variety, from spectacular nightlife, to relaxing spas and thermal springs, you're sure to find plenty of entertaining activities to make your vacation to Turkey a success.

Beaches and Watersports

Being home to the most spectacular beaches in Turkey, you'll have no difficulty in finding a beach to suit you in Dalaman. Oludeniz, which means "calm" or "dead" is said to be the most beautiful beach in the country. It has clear, turquoise water, which is actually cleaner than most drinking water if you remove the salt. Lush, green foliage surrounds the area, as well. There are a variety of places where you can take diving lessons, go canoeing, para-sailing or banana boating. To go scuba diving in Dalaman, it is required that you go with a guide because the government is concerned that people will steal ancient artifacts from the many archaeological sites along the coast. Other gorgeous beaches perfect for swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, and sunbathing are Patara, Icmeler, Olu Deniz, and Caliz.

Marmaris boasts a long stretch of beach with volcanic, black sand lined with lively bars and restaurants that stay open well into the night. Besides the beach, you must take advantage of the great water parks in Marmaris, including the AquaDream Water Park and the Atlantis Water Park. AquaDream has 10 adult slides, a children's area with slides, a wave pool, excellent views, and a restaurant. Atlantis has a great combination of tube slides, speed slides, and children's slides to enjoy with your family.

Archaeological Ruins

To see the more traditional side of Turkey, Fethiye is the town to visit. Fethiye is located in the hills leading up to Mount Mendes and has typical restaurants and markets of the region. You can take a 12-island cruise from the town and see Gemile Island with its Byzantine ruins. More than 2,000 years ago, Fethiye was an important town called Telmessos which was later destroyed by earthquakes. All that is left from the old town are the Lycian stone sarcophagi and the Tomb of Amyntas, carved into an imposing cliff face, which can still be visited today. There are also some great hiking and horseback riding excursions available in the area.

Beauty and Relaxation

A trip to the Therme Maris Spa Hotel is quite a treat. You can buy a day pass and enjoy hours of massages, working out in the fitness center, tanning in the solarium, having natural body and face peels, going in the sauna, etc. Also included, is access to the 3 outdoor pools and indoor thermal pool, jacuzzi, and mud bath. Since it is located on Dalaman Beach, you also have the opportunity to feed the loggerhead turtles.

Another stress relieving pleasure is the mud baths in Dalyan. It costs only a few dollars to take a boat to the baths. You can slather yourself in sulphur rich mud, containing rejuvenating and healing properties, and even have a mud war if you want! Afterward, you must sit and dry in the sun to fully experience its benefits. When the mud has dried completely on your skin, take a cold, high pressure shower. Some say the pressure is a little too harsh for comfort, but sitting in warm sulfur water after the shower more than relieves any discomfort.
