The Dalaman region is one of intense natural beauty and has something for everyone, from the most avid shopaholic to the history enthusiast. Here we look at some of the possibilities for passing the time over seven days

Day 1 - Olu Deniz

Experience the beautiful crystal clear waters. There are many activities to try - scuba diving, snorkeling, rafting - all manner of water sports. For the more active there are great trekking possibilities. There are many lovely walks for individuals of all fitness levels throughout the surrounding hills and coastline. Walk the Lycian way and visit Butterfly Valley, which is famous for its butterflies and moths. When you reach your destination on the Babadag Walk, you can para glide back down again - a once in a lifetime experience.

There are an assortment of beaches in this area, and also some very good eateries to suit all pockets.

Day 2 - Fethiye Market

This is the largest market in the area and is held on a Tuesday. Here you can soak up some traditional Turkish sights and aromas. Pungent spices and fresh produce are all on sale. You can pick up "designer" clothing and watches. Shop around and remember to haggle.

After a day's shopping, visit the famous rock tomb of King Amyntas and the Old Mosque before visiting a local bar or coffee house.

Day 3 - Boat and Gulet Trips

There are many excursions and boat trips available along this coastline. A popular option is a gulet cruise. A gulet is a handcrafted wooden motorized sailing yacht, and cruises can stretch from an afternoon to days. There are regular short day trips which depart from Sarsala Bay.

Day 4 - Sightseeing Options in Fethiye

The Fethiye area of Dalaman is rich in Roman and Lycian ruins. This part of Turkey is often called the Birthplace of Civilization. Places of interest are the amphitheater at Xanthos, the ancient Lycian capital and Telmessos for its rock tombs.

Day 5 - Dalaman Town

For gentlemen, there are many traditional barbers in Dalaman who specialize in a traditional cut throat razor shave. For ladies there are many shopping experiences available, but watch out for the many fake designer items for sale. Also look out for the rare Liquidamber Orientalis tree which grows in this town.

Day 6 - Marmaris Town Day and Night

Spend the day wandering through the bazaars and the castle grounds. You can shop here until the early hours and also experience the celebrated and sometimes wild nightlife.

Day 7 - Into the Mountains

For a relaxing yet still spectacular last day, take the longest cable car journey in Europe up Mount Tahtali for breathtaking views, then relax in the Riza Cavus thermal springs.
