Most guidebooks will tell you that the only hotel in Bosra is the Cham - and unless you want to pay a lot of money make Bosra a day trip. This is not entirely necessary as Bosra is worth more than a few hours. (And who wants to ride the bus twice in one day?) Go to the 1001 Night Restaurant next to the theater/citadel and ask for the owner Obeida. (He speaks Arabic, English, German, Italian and is fun to talk to.) Damascus Hostel

In the Old City, easy to see everything you need to see by walking. Clean, probably the cleanest. Friendly, helpful staff who speak English and Arabic. Plenty of advice on getting transport and good deals. Best kitchen I've seen, all mod cons, clean showers, nice bunch of guests from Europe when I was there. Loads of cheap, clean eating places next door. Safe, private and very good value in my opinion.

Al Haramain

500 a double, 250 a single, 200 dorm bed Shower in basement.

Pretty basic, but a very nice old Damascene building. At night the rooms on the first floor can be quite noisy, due to people drinking and talking in the courtyard. 'Near the Old center in a small street. The area is called souk sarouja street and is near Matyrs Square - Al Majai is how the locals say it
