Festivals in JeddahEdit This
There are many different types of things to see and do in Jeddah; festivals are one of them. Many of the festivals are designed to attract more tourists to the city and bring more money into Jeddah. In fact, in an effort to increase popularity of the festivals, Prince Khalel-Al- Faisal has asked every person living and working in the city to contribute to the festivals in some way.
This festival has been taking place since the year 2000, and has many different kinds of attractions for tourists such as fireworks, live music and local food. It is estimated that the festival attracts as many as three million people each year. The Summer Festival of Jeddah takes place during the months of June and July.
The festival is a way for people to exhibit arts and crafts from the region of Jeddah. On many occasions, the festival is used to showcase the workmanship of the goldsmiths, who display many kinds of jewels. The gold exhibitions are aimed to increase the revenue of the city, and are a good way for buyers and sellers to get acquainted.Eid Al-Fitr Festival
This is one of the most religious--and most popular-- of all the Jeddah Festivals. The festival takes place during the month of Ramadhan, and it goes on for a whole week. Many people gather and pass out candy, and most people dress in their best clothing. The festival's purpose is to celebrate the sacrifice of Ishmael by Abraham, according to Muslim tradition. It is not unusual for people to visit their loved ones or their neighbors unexpectedly during this time. Jeddah gets overcrowded during the Eid Al-Fitr Festival, with people coming from all over to celebrate this special occasion.Jeddah Film Festival
The Jeddah film festival is fairly new, since the Islamic Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has had a long-standing ban on films and movie houses. However, the restrictions have been fairly relaxed recently, enough that an annual film festival can be held in Jeddah. There are as many as 100 films that have been showcased, many of which come from all over the world. This is one of the many Jeddah festivals that is sure to bring more people to the city.
