When to Go in Salalah
Edit ThisLocated on the southern corner of Oman’s Dhofar region, a trip to Salalah can be stifling hot if you go at the wrong time. With intense heat and humidity, this ancient city is packed with a strong cultural heritage and amazing history and is best visited during its coolest period – monsoon season. During this time, a visit to Salalah is characterized by plush greenery in the city and mountains surrounding it, as well as comfortable temperatures that make exploring the area pleasant.
Salalah Weather
Tourism in Salalah booms throughout the rainy season as the mountains around the city and every inch of land turns to a bright green shade. Considering that the land is dry and arid throughout the rest of the year, this shocking burst of color brings visitors from all over the region as well as internationally.
Weather during the monsoon season hovers in the lower 70s for a couple of months, while otherwise, temperatures soar to nearly 105 degrees F. While this heat may be fine for a day at the beach, if you plan on touring around the city and exploring its historical landmarks, the cooler temperatures will be very welcome and allow for your comfortable travel.
Salalah Attractions
The Kharif season is also a notable attraction in visiting Salalah and happens to fall during the rainy season. During this time the population of the city nearly doubles as national tourists flock to the city for its cooler temperatures and festivities. There are many fairs and other activities taking place throughout the city and its environs during this time that can make visiting Salalah all the more fun and memorable.
The Kharif festival takes place for six weeks beginning in mid-June and through to August. Its celebrations include a lively carnival, shopping and various cultural performances throughout its long and festive season. There are many attractions for children during this time, as there are toy trains and merry go rounds for them to enjoy during the festival.
This traditional Omani festival makes visiting Salalah even more
hospitable and inviting than its warm people already are. For a truly
cultural experience, a trip should be arranged around the Kharif
festivities. If you don’t mind the heat, anytime can be perfect in
Salalah where its residents are lovely and will surely be happy to have
you.
