Getting There in Salalah
Edit ThisSalalah is conveniently connected by direct flights to other cities in Oman, the Middle East and India and has a well-established road network to link it with other Omani destinations. Here is a handy guide to getting to Salalah using various modes of transport.
Air Travel
Oman Air schedules 3 flights a day from Muscat to Salalah and the flight takes approximately 90 minutes. There are convenient direct flights between Dubai and Salalah scheduled twice a week on Sundays and Tuesdays. There are also a few direct flights linking Salalah with India's cities of Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
Road Transport
A car trip from Muscat to Salalah takes around 12 to14 hours with several detours along the labyrinth roads of Oman. The exciting journey covers small picturesque towns including Nizwa, Haima and Rusayl. There are also some rough dunes, small hamlets and old fields to discover en route. Try to schedule the drive at early evening or during the night since it can be extremely stressful to travel through the scorching heat of the day.
There is a very efficient and well-networked daily bus service that connects all cities of Oman with reasonable rates compared to the exorbitant private taxi fares. The 12-hour Muscat-Salalah trip is priced at $ 20 and visitors can enjoy pretty views of the Omani landscape along the way. The buses are relatively safe and functionally comfortable.
Salalah has a well-connected transport system that links it to all towns in Oman and several others in neighboring countries.
