Getting Around in Salalah

Edit This

Salalah doesn’t have an extensive city transport profile, since most distances within the town are relatively short and can easily be covered on foot. However, there are a few other modes of transport that visitors should know about. Here is a guide to moving around in Salalah.

Local Taxis

Local taxis usually run without a meter and it is best to fix a price beforehand than have a confrontation with the drivers, who almost always quote a preposterous rate for tourists. Considering the fact that distances between most significant tourist points are relatively short, the average taxi fare should round up to 500 Baiza. On hot summer afternoons, it is best not to walk and better to hail a cab. Visitors can also have their hotels organize for a local taxi and consult the staff for a fair price. The taxis however have a fixed 3 OMR charge for tourists from the airport to any place in Salalah. From the city center to Crowne Plaza Resort or Hilton Salalah, the fare is about OMR 3 to 3.5.

Car Hire

Since Salalah has virtually no public transport options, private car hires are very popular, especially with western tourists. Car rental agencies generally charge OMR 12 to 15 per day including insurance, where the first few kilometers per day are free and subsequent kilometers are charged at around 500 Baiza per kilometer. Rental cars can be obtained at the airport or in town.

Salalah has limited transport options to move around the city and the only ways to cover distances here are-on foot, by private local taxis and car rentals.
